Applecore ATV Flash Review

Applecore LLC has made an easy installer to aid you in hacking your AppleTV. It promises you a Safari or Web-Kit based browser with Flash enabled, opens many more codecs to allow more kinds of video playback and more.

I found it to be a mixed bag. My hopes were to be able to play files recorded off El Gato's EyeTV Digital Hybrid (terrestrial Hi Def broadcast TV) and watch flash video from Hulu and Abc.com.

Well I'm one for three - more like a half for three really.

Thoughts on CSS Best Practices

Regardless of what kind of Web development you are doing, you will always need to work with CSS before launching your site. I've been reflecting on best practices in CSS lately. So here is my list of best practices. This is not by any means a complete list or the gold standard for CSS development. This is just what I have learned so far (although I doubt many would find any of these statements controversial). Feel free to add your ideas in the comments.

Drupal 6 is here!

Drupal 6 was released this last week. I've been checking it out through the betas and release candidate releases. Its a soid release with something for everyone.

Developers get under the hood improvements like a new streamlined version of the Form API.

Drupal 5.6 Update went without a hitch on this site

Don't get complacent though and update without backing up first.

I hope my other 6 drupal sites update as easily as this one.

By the way - I've gotten in the habit of not overwriting my sites/* folder on the server when updating. Is that cheating?

10 tips for great sounding podcasts!

  • Get close to the Mic!  If you're more than about 6 inches from your mic - whether its an expensive condenser mic or an inexpensive usb headset mic combo, you need to be close to get the best sound. The further you are from the mic, the more background noise you introduce into signal. Be sure to address the front of the microphone.  Each microphone has a sweet spot. Spend some time finding your mic's sweet spot.
